Ceremony Dedicates 'Heroes Highway' To Slain Deputies

BEL AIR, Md. (WJZ) -- A stretch of road where two sheriff's deputies were gunned down in Harford County has been renamed "Heroes Highway" in their honor.

Harford County has dedicated a stretch of Route 924 to Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon. The two deputies were shot to death while responding to a call at a Panera Bread in Abingdon on February 10.

"Children traveling here will ask their parents why," said Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, Harford County.

The tragedy brought families, officers and first responders together to memorialize two men who sacrificed everything to serve their community.

"Mark and Pat have the eternal gratitude of an entire state," said Governor Larry Hogan.

Dailey served Harford County for 30 years. Logsdon served 16.

Legislation to dedicate the road passed unanimously -- showing the impact of their brave actions.

"Heroes Highway" is not just a tribute to Dailey and Logsdon, the road also honors all the fallen heroes who have died in the line of duty.

The stretch of dedication is from Singer Road to Route 24.
