Census Bureau Shooting Suspect Charged With Murder
GREENBELT, Md. (WJZ)—The suspect who opened fire outside the U.S. Census Bureau, killing a security guard last week, was charged with murder today in U.S. District Court.
Authorities say 48-year-old Ronald Anderson, of Suitland, is facing multiple charges including murder, kidnapping, for the kidnapping and fatal shooting on April 9, 2015.
According to police, Anderson abducted a victim at gunpoint in Washington, D.C. and then drove to his apartment complex in Suitland, Maryland. Police say while on his way, he called a second victim and asked her to meet him at his apartment.
Intense moments unfolded in Suitland which eventually led to vehicle pursuit between Anderson and both victims inside a separate vehicle.
Police say the victims drove to the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland knowing armed officers would be there. Anderson followed which later resulted in an shootout between Anderson and Officers at the Census Bureau. One of those officers died during the incident, he was later identified as 58-year-old Lawrence Buckner.
Anderson fled the scene but was arrested and short time later.
If convicted, Anderson faces a maximum sentence of death or life in prison.
