Student arrested after cutting left 2 injured at Baltimore's Carver Vo-Tech High School

BALTIMORE -- A student is in custody after two people were cut in a fight that broke out Tuesday at Carver Vocational-Technical High School, Baltimore City Schools officials said.

The student, who is female, was not identified by age or grade. It was not immediately clear what charges she faces.

A teacher and a student were cut by a sharp object at the West Baltimore high school around 1 p.m., officials said, which prompted a lockdown at the school. Neither of the injuries were life-threatening.

"I got a student that's stabbed, I got a teacher that's stabbed," an emergency responder said over the scanner..

"The staff member was taken to the hospital to make sure they got care for their injury," said Alison Perkins-Cohen, the Chief of Staff for Baltimore City Public Schools.

The news of the fight and lockdown spread fast throughout the school.

"They said, everyone on the announcer, it's a Code Yellow," said Zion, a student. "Everyone got in the classroom."

"I felt my heart drop today when I heard Code Yellow," said Jania, a student. "I'm like, OK, it's not Code Red, so it's not hat bad, but I immediately called my little sister who got locked in the cafeteria."

Police swarmed in on campus to secure the area and look for those responsible.

"I just see them running so I knew something was up," a student said. "So, I went right there to see what happened. I just see blood."

District officials say they will take appropriate action with the students involved.

But, students told WJZ they are fed up with the violence happening inside schools.

"I'm frustrated, I'm irritated, I'm scared," Jania said.
