Bus Crash Survivor: 'I Woke Up On the Floor With Glass In My Mouth'
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Michelle Kennedy was trapped on an MTA bus, screaming for help seconds after colliding with a school bus on Tuesday morning.
"I was in pain, I was scared, I was yelling for help" said the bus crash survivor.
Michelle wasn't supposed to be on that MTA bus Tuesday morning.
"I woke up a little late so I took that bus," she said.
Michelle normally gets on the bus earlier, at 4:30 a.m. to make her way to her job as a housekeeper at Spring Grove Medical Center, but she was running late and boarded the #10 line through Southwest Baltimore.
"I was sitting on the right side I was talking to someone and then next thing I know I woke up on the floor with glass in my mouth I had lost consciousness," Michelle said.
Trauma in her words, but on her face a fractured jaw, stitches and contusions.
"I was able to lift the glass up, I had another lady who was sitting beside me, she was laying on me as well as the bus driver," said Michelle. "I kept yelling for help…I was scared. They had to pry open the door and had to take me by my arm, lift me up to get me up"
Michelle is a survivor of one of the worst public transportation accidents in Baltimore history.
She's choosing to speak about it to help the families of those who did not make it.
"We need to know why it happened and because I wouldn't be here but I'm glad I am," Michelle said.
Michelle was treated at Hopkins for her injuries.
Ten other passengers were injured, several are still hospitalized at this time.
