6 Injured In Serious Accident Involving A Police Cruiser In East Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Six people are injured--including two officers and two children-- in a collision involving a police cruiser in Northeast Baltimore.

Mike Hellgren has the latest.

It happened as the officers responded to a routine call and sent six people to emergency rooms, including two officers and two children.

"His head was laying out the side of the window. They took a child out and she was like limp," said Jacqueline Capers.

Police did say the officers were responding to a call about a woman with a knife but, just before 10 a.m., they collided with a Ford Explorer. Witnesses say there was no siren.

"It's like [screeching noise], boom and I jumped up and tried to get my window open and when I got my window open, I saw the two cars," said Kara Demindes.

"I heard no sirens until I heard the crash and then I heard sirens," said Aaron Greene.

Green took pictures showing the response minutes after the crash.

Police say there was no chase; the Ford was not involved in the original response call. At this point, police have not said who they believe is to blame.

"Our investigators are looking at every aspect of this case to include the call for service and what actually happened inside the intersection," said Baltimore City Police Department Spokesman Jarron Jackson.

"I hope that they're okay because, as a mother with children in those age ranges, it kind of touched my heart to see them that way," Demindes said.

Neighbors say the intersection of Frankford and Plainfield is dangerous and they hope the accident is a wakeup call. They say they won't forget the sound.

"All I heard was the screeching for two seconds and then the boom," Capers said.

Police have not released updated conditions for the four injured in the Ford; that includes the two children.
