Thousands Gather For Billy Joel Concert, First Music Performance Ever Held At Camden Yards
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It was a night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards that has never been seen before.
A live concert was performed on the field- and the artist was none other than Billy Joel!
"I'm just excited to see him," Katie McCune said. "I see everybody else posting when he was here four years ago."
After the ballpark opened in 1992, the Orioles team owners were concerned if it made economic sense for them to hold a concert- until now.
"We're really excited to be part of his first show ever at Camden Yards," Chris Caldwell, of BMore Around Town, said. "We hope there's much more where that came from."
More than 800 people showed up at Stadium Square in Federal Hill on Friday afternoon- tailgating for the big show with live music, ice-cold drinks and games.

"This is our 10th year doing tailgates," Caldwell said. "We do things for football games, baseball games, concerts, Ravens road trips, Orioles road trips. We're pumped because this is the first-ever concert at Camden Yards."
The City of Baltimore rushed to get roadwork done so concertgoers could get to the stadium as easy as possible. Two lanes of Howard and Pratt Streets temporarily re-opened after being shut down for weeks after a water main break.
Regardless of traffic, it was another big showing for Joel after more than 37,000 people appeared at his last Baltimore concert at M&T Bank Stadium.
