BGE, Baltimore Fire investigate possible explosion in South Baltimore

BALTIMORE-- BGE crews and the Baltimore City Fire Department investigated a possible explosion that happened in South Baltimore on Saturday, according to Baltimore City Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright.

Firefighters noticed fire coming from the sidewalk in addition to an overhanging powerline when they arrived at a house in the 1500 block of Ridgley Street around 9 a.m., according to fire officials.

The actual cause of the incident remains under investigation, according to Baltimore City Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire or explosion. 

A building inspector visited the site to determine the extent of damages to the building. The condition of the residence has not been released. 

Baltimore City firefighters, Office of Emergency Management officials, and BGE staff collaborated resources and further assessed what caused the incident at the fire site , Cartwright said.
