Benimon, Towson Give Delaware First CAA Loss 78-63

TOWSON, Maryland (AP) -- Jerrelle Benimon had 25 points, 18 rebounds and five assists as Towson ended Delaware's unbeaten conference run and 13-game winning streak with a 78-63 victory on Monday night.

Benimon scored back-to back transition layups during a key 10-0 run that put Towson (18-9, 9-3 Colonial Athletic Association) ahead 73-57 with 3:51 left.

Davon Usher answered with six points for Delaware (19-8, 11-1) to cut the lead to 73-63, but the Blue Hens were done scoring with 2:36 to go.

Mike Burwell had 17 points and Rafriel Guthrie scored 15 as Towson held Delaware to 31.7 percent overall shooting and just 4 of 20 from the 3-point line.

Usher led the Hens with 24 points. A Delaware victory would have clinched at least a tie for the CAA title with four games to go and would have surpassed 2006-07 Virginia Commonwealth and 1985-86 Richmond for best start (11-0) in CAA history.
