Baltimoreans Excited For New Casino--And Its Food
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- As many people anticipate the opening of the Horseshoe Casino on Tuesday, there is a large number of people more anxious about the food over the games.
Marcus Washington got a sneak peek and taste test at some of the restaurants.
As popular as casinos are in Maryland---generating more than $52 million in July alone---you also have a large group of people whose draw is strictly the food.
When you hear the word "casino," you can't help but think about the card games and the slot machines. But for a lot of people, it's not about the games but the food. Meet culinary masters John Besh and Aaron Sanchez. They're launching their first restaurant collaboration at the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore called Johnny Sanchez.
"Nowhere else have two chefs of a certain amount of experience and caliber ever collaborated this kind of way," Sanchez said.
This is just one of the 10 restaurants that are housed in Horseshoe Baltimore. From steaks to sushi, guests will be able to sample it all---including the 24 hour bar called 1440.
"There's a certain amount of escapism when you walk through this door and you can do what ever you want. That's what we love about being in the Horseshoe Baltimore is that idea of creating that experience and going somewhere else," Sanchez said.
As thousands of people are expected to venture throughout the doors of Horseshoe next week, Besh and Sanchez say they will surely provide a venture for anyone not coming for the games.
"People do go to casinos now. We travel Vegas a lot of times not to gamble---we're going there for the food," Besh said.
The casino opens at 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
