Baltimore Shamrock 5K, St. Patrick's Day Parade Canceled

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Shamrock 5K and St. Patrick's Day parade has been canceled.

The race and parade was supposed to be held Sunday, March 15.

"After consulting with our medical team this morning we have come to the conclusion that it would be irresponsible to hold a mass gathering on Sunday," race officials said.

CORONAVIRUS COVERAGE:

"While the decision to cancel was one we did not take lightly, ultimately the 'right' decision was clear. The safety and security of our runners, volunteers, staff, partners, and spectators are always our main concern," the announcement continued.

All registrations will be deferred to 2021.

St. Patrick Celebrations, Inc. has voted to postpone indefinitely the 65th Baltimore St. Patrick Parade.

"Because of the fluid nature of the coronavirus situation, we are unable at this time to set a new date for the Parade. If and when we do, we will post the details on our website as well as on our Facebook page and Twitter feed, and will send emails," organizers said.
