Baltimore Police Search for Man Who Robbed Popular Fells Point Bakery

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Baltimore police are attempting to identify a suspect, caught on surveillance video, robbing a popular Fells Point bakery last month.

In broad daylight, a man walked in the bakery and pointed a gun at the one employee in the store in an attempt to get cash.

Security cameras rolled on the less-than-two-minute encounter at H&S Bakery on Fleet Street.

"We want everyone to take a look at this video that we released. It's pretty good surveillance video," said Jeremy Silbert of the Baltimore Police Department.

The suspect ducked under metal barricades and headed straight for the only cashier. With a gun in hand, he approached the female employee as she backed away.

Baltimore police say he did get away with some money.

"We're really hopeful that someone will come forward and give us some information in this case," Silbert said.

The robber was wearing a surgical mask, sunglasses and a hat.

Store employees say they don't want to talk about the crime that happened, but they do hope it ends with an arrest and so do customers.

"That's very upsetting. That's very unfortunate," said customer Avi Sunshine, who was shocked to learn one of her favorite spots was also favored by a criminal.

"It's terrible that somebody would go ahead and do something like that in broad daylight," said customer Sharon Jenkins, who shops at the store monthly.

She's baffled by why someone would target an outlet store, where she says most customers only spend a few bucks.

"People come in with maybe 5- or 6-dollars worth. It's not like the place is crowded and it's a nice store. It's a shame it had to happen," she said.

Investigators say the robber is in his 50's, about 5-foot-10 and weighs under 160 pounds.

Police say if you can't name the man, maybe you recognize him., know where he lives or know where he hangs out.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call police at 410-366-6341 or at 410-265-8080. You can remain anonymous by calling Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP.

Baltimore police say they are still investigating and checking crime reports in the area, but don't believe the man is tied to any other robberies.
