Baltimore Man Gets 12 Years For Forcing Young Women Into Prostitution
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to forcing young women to work as prostitutes.
Travis Lamont Foote pleaded guilty in Maryland federal court Tuesday as part of a plea agreement.
Under the agreement, the 31-year-old Foote pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion. In exchange, prosecutors dropped five charges, including interstate transportation for prostitution and coercion.
Foote also must register as a sex offender after his release.
Prosecutors say that between September and November 2012, Foote used social media sites to trick troubled young women into working for him as prostitutes. In one case, they say he posed as a woman trying to help an 18-year-old high school dropout in Florida get her a diploma.
