"I'm way more vigilant than I used to be," he said. "These areas used to be safe and you can do anything out here, but it seems like it is just spreading all over the country."
On October 20, Anne Arundel County Police were called to a Holiday Inn Express off Aero Drive in Linthicum after a man reportedly broke into was reported breaking into cars.
Once officers arrived, investigators say Futrell tried to run away, but was later caught after a short chase.
Through their investigation, police were able to connect him to two other incidents where property was stolen from cars.
In one of those instances, police say Futrell smashed the windows of 20 cars to steal items at an apartment complex in Glen Burnie.
He reportedly stole and used stolen debit cards.
According to charging documents, bodycam footage from a traffic stop helped identify Futrell just two hours before police responded to the Glen Burnie apartment complex.
