Baltimore Co. Homicide Victim Was Fmr. Morgan St. Basketball Player

BALTIMORE CO., Md. (WJZ) -- Police in Baltimore County are investigating the homicide of a woman who was shot after leaving a local bar.

Tracey Elizabeth Carrington, 25, was shot multiple times while getting into her vehicle on Overlea Ave. after she left S&S Lounge, located at 6900 Belair Rd., according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

Attorney: 25-Year-Old Maryland Woman Shot Was Witness In Double Homicide

However, they are not confirming that Carrington was a witness to a double homicide in April in Towson.

Questions are now swirling following the death of the former Morgan State University student-athlete and Baltimore native.

Morgan State University confirmed Carrington was a former student-athlete at the school. The university released the following statement:

"The Morgan State University family is very saddened to have learned of the tragedy involving former student-athlete and graduate Tracey Carrington. The unfortunate death of this Morgan alum is a true loss. We extend our condolences to Tracey's family and friends along with our hope that those responsible for her death are brought swiftly to justice."

The shooting happened at 11 p.m. Thursday, and police believe the woman was targeted.

Investigators found that this shooting was not a drive-by shooting, and it was not gang-related.

The shooter got out of a vehicle, shot Carrington multiple times, before getting back in the vehicle and fleeing the scene, police say.

They said they believe it was a targeted shooting.

"There was no other crime that was involved. There's no robbery, there's no theft. He didn't approach her, he didn't try and steal the car. he came right up to her, shot her multiple times and left." said Baltimore County spokesperson officer Jen Peach.

Authorities are looking for anyone that may have seen anything, no matter how small of a detail.

"Even if they don't think that they saw this, if they saw something it could be important and we're asking them to contact us," Peach said.

Baltimore defense attorney Warren Brown said Friday night that Carrington was a witness to a double murder that took place earlier this year at a Towson apartment complex, though again, Baltimore County Police has not confirmed this as of now.

Investigators said two victims were found shot outside.

Brown's firm is representing the two brothers that prosecutors charged with the murders.

Both men were later released on bail.

Brown said his clients have been and currently are on electronically monitored home detention.

At the moment police have only released vague details, including a suspect description, what color the getaway car is, and what direction they field in.

Meanwhile, some Morgan State Students are left hurting by the tragedy.

"Yeah, this is just sad," said Waylan Mitchell, a sophomore at Morgan State.

"It's really daunting, it really is," Another student said.

Morgan officials released condolences to Carrington's family along with their statement, adding they hope "Those responsible for her death are brought swiftly to justice,"
