Baltimore Cosby Supporter: 'Until He's Guilty, He's Still A Role Model'

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Bill Cosby's attorney says the entertainer will be cleared of a sexual assault charge after being accused of drugging and assaulting a woman in his suburban Philadelphia home 12-years ago.

WJZ Investigator Mike Hellgren has more on Cosby's legacy in Baltimore.

J.R. Gray says he'll never forget the summer day seven years ago when he heard Bill Cosby speak in Park Heights.

"We're a low-income, jobless community--high HIV rate--Bill Cosby came and he showed that he at least had us on his mind," said Gray.

And Gray says--the new criminal sex charge doesn't change his mind about the comedian.

"Until I find out he's guilty, he's still a role model in my life," he said.

The Cosby's donated millions of dollars to Saint Frances Academy on Baltimore's east side, which put their names on a community center there three years ago.

It was there--then--where Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake gave him and his wife Camille a warm welcome.

Just the year before, Cosby--who in later years has been as much an activist as a comedian--got involved in Baltimore politics, endorsing Rawlings-Blake's opponent, Otis Rolley.

Still, the allegations are a shock to some.

Cosby continues to maintain his innocence--as he always has-- his most famous denial came in an uncomfortable 2014 interview in which Cosby asks a reporter during an interview that "none of that be shown," in reference to the allegations.

Johns Hopkins, University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore are all considering what to do about honorary doctorates they gave Cosby and the fallout continues for the comedian.
