Opening Day Is Here For Baltimore City's New Horseshoe Casino

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--The Horseshoe Casino has officially opened its doors to the public.

Meghan McCorkell has the first night.

People came from all over to see this party.

With glitz and glamor, Baltimore rolled out the red carpet for the opening of the new Horseshoe Casino.

"This is an exciting night," said Governor Martin O'Malley.

The new $442 million facility officially opened its door. The space features 2,500 video lottery terminals, 100 table games and food from top celebrity chefs.

"Baltimore is that much cooler. There's that much more going on," said Duff Goldman.

"Huge bar, open kitchen," said Guy Fieri. "All this energy happening. To be part of it, mind-blowing."

The casino is hoping to bring in locals and those from far away.

"We'll be able to draw additional tourism in from outside the city that will not only take part in what we have to offer here...but go out into the city, as well," said Chad Barnhill, the casino's general manager.

Jerome Hall came all the way from Delaware, lucky horseshoe in hand, to check out the new casino.

"This could be my night. I'm hoping," said Jerome Hall.

He hopes the chips are stacked in his favor as Baltimore cashes in on the casino.

Thousands of people are waiting in line to get into the casino. It was a star-studded night. Gladys Knight and Iggy Azalea both performed.

The casino employed over 2,400 Baltimore residents.
