ATM Theft Suspects Protected Workers From Debris, Police Say

LANHAM, Md. (AP) -- Police in a Washington suburb of Maryland say suspects in the theft of an ATM from a convenience store protected store employees from flying debris as another suspect drove a truck into the store.

Citing a Prince George's County police release, news outlets report two suspects had entered the store early Wednesday and ordered all employees to get on the ground.

The pair then lay on top of the employees to protect them as the white pickup crashed through the storefront.

All three suspects pushed the ATM onto the bed of the truck before fleeing.

Hours later, police were called to a vacant lot where they found three stolen ATMs on fire.

One of the ATMs was from the store. Police found the suspected stolen truck nearby.
