11-Month-Old Boy Of Amber Alert Found Safe; Suspect Caught
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The juvenile suspect and vehicle involved in Wednesday's Amber Alert has been located, according to Baltimore City Police.
Around 1:30 p.m police say a woman was unloading groceries in the 400 block of Kane Street when an unknown suspect entered the vehicle and drove away with her son still inside the vehicle.
"We initially put info out that this was a carjacking but we had a language barrier, there was no force used against mother to take vehicle. The keys were in the vehicle," said T.J. Smith of the Baltimore City Police.
The 11-month-old boy, Leo Garcia Lopez, of the Amber Alert issued by Maryland State Police Wednesday was found safe in a carseat on a Northeast Baltimore sidewalk.
The stolen SUV was located in the 2700 block Pelham Avenue and the juvenile suspect connected to the robbery was taken into custody.
Charlmaine Wilson and Omar Parrine were both walking along Shannon Drive when they spotted the toddler around 3:35 p.m. still secure in his car seat. The baby appeared unharmed and was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.
"It's cruel, unbelievable and don't make sense," said Wilson, who found the baby on sidewalk. "I thought it was a doll baby but when I went towards the house, it was a real baby."
"The baby was kicking, crying and screaming. I usually don't take this way home from school but something told me to take this way today. It's a blessing," said Parrine.
No charges have been filed against the juvenile suspect. Police said earlier they're unsure whether or not the mother of the child will face any charges.
