Allegany County Sheriff's Office Warns Residents Of Recent Telephone Scams

ALLEGANY COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- The Allegany County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a recent phone scam.

The sheriff's office says scammers claim to be with residents' power companies and claim electricity will be shut off unless payments are made.

The name of residents' power companies may even show up on caller ID, the sheriff's office says.

The sheriff's office is reminding residents that this is a scam and power companies will always notify you by mail, not by telephone.
