All Aboard New Partnership Between B&O And Japan's Railway Museum

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- All aboard. A new partnership is formed between Baltimore's B&O Railroad Museum and one far overseas.

Inside the B&O Railroad Museum, a new partnership is put to pen and paper and a new affiliation between Baltimore and Japan is unveiled.

The new agreement between the B&O Railroad Museum and the Railway Museum in Saitama City, Japan allows the two facilities to exchange collections, expertise, technology, personnel and education programs.

"Transportation is vital. So today, we celebrate the beginning of a sisterhood," said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. "Between the B&O and the Railway Museum in Saitama City, Japan."

"On behalf of the Japanese government, I would like to extend the congratulations of this establishment of sisterhood between two of the greatest railroad museums of the world."

This new partnership comes as Japan is ready to invest $5 billion to bring the high speed train Maglev to Baltimore, linking us to Washington, D.C. in just 15 minutes. But Friday's announcement focused on the railway's rich history.

"But this is not the end of a journey, but rather the beginning of an adventure together."

The new agreement will also launch an international marketing campaign to draw travelers from east to west and west to east.

The B&O Railroad Museum is home to the oldest collection of railroad artifacts in the western hemisphere.
