Cyclists Reports Abuse, Racist Pamphlets At Maryland Event
CLEAR SPRING, Md. (AP) -- A Colorado cycling group says it won't return to a Maryland town after encountering abuse and white supremacist literature.
The Herald-Mail cites a tweet from Aevolo Cycling saying one of its riders was the target of "physical and verbal abuse" and members found plastic bags with literature from a purported Ku Klux Klan organization while on a walk.
While @usacycling put on a great #Roadnats, our experience in #ClearSpringMD was less so. On 3 occasions, our riders received physical & verbal abuse - not to mention discovering racist pamphlets on the roadside. Unacceptable. We won't be back. @HagerstownPD @HMMediaSports

Aevolo manager Michael Creed says someone threw an object that struck a rider in the face, drawing blood Friday. That same rider was threatened Saturday on the road course.
The group was in town for the USA Cycling Amateur National Road Championships.
Washington County Sheriff Doug Mullendore says the literature didn't target the cyclists or the event. Clear Spring Mayor Paul D. Hose calls the treatment of the group a "disgrace."
