A Day of Prayer & Peace
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A day of prayer and peace. That is the call from the governor. Through the city Sunday, many people focused on prayer for Baltimore at church services.
Marcus Washington has a look at services.
From St. Peter Claver Catholic Church to New Shiloh Baptist Church, there is a call for healing.
"When Your people call on Your name, You're a prayer answerer," said one preacher.
At the request of Governor Larry Hogan, a statewide day of peace and prayer.
"It's from prayer that we get the strength and patience that we need to love our neighbor. Not by talking about it, but doing something about it," said Archbishop William Lori.
This after days of riots, rallies and demonstrations---much of it connected to the arrest and death of Freddie Gray.
Just feet from where a CVS was burned Monday during the riots, people gathered in this church in prayer for peace.
"Because Jesus lives, our city can be resurrected, be transformed," said one preacher.
"Greater prayer equals greater power. Less prayer equals less power," said Emmanuel West.
"I've been raised in the church all my life and I have seen prayer change many situations. I've seen prayer help my family personally when we felt we had nowhere to go and when we felt we had no one to turn to," said Sade Harvey.
"The Bible I read says we ought to always pray," said Westley West.
It said prayer changes things and many have hope to see that change soon.
Many people say they believe prayer equals hope and they hope there is a better day for Baltimore.
