68-Year-Old Woman Injured In Carjacking In Timonium

TIMONIUM, Md. (WJZ) -- A 68-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a carjacking in Timonium on Monday night, Baltimore County police said.

The carjacking happened around 8:40 p.m. on Monday in the parking lot of a Walgreens in the 1800 block of York Road. Police said a juvenile tried to grab the woman's keys but she was able to resist until two more juveniles came over.

The trio then grabbed the woman's keys and fled the scene in her vehicle.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

The carjacking was the third one in the area in two weeks, police said, blaming the spike on new technology.

"They need a key fob, they need the key with the computer chip in it to have the car run, so they are forced to do these carjackings at this point," said Baltimore Police Cpl. Shawn Vinson. "(It) makes it more violent."

Some residents were shocked the incident happened right in their neighborhood.

"It really chills my blood because I've lived in this neighborhood and we like to think of this as a safe neighborhood," Fred Weinstein said.

Police did not provide a description of the suspects or the vehicle that was stolen but are asking anyone who may have information to contact them.
