41-Year-Old Man Killed After Carjacking In SE Baltimore Early Friday, 16-Year-Old In Custody

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 16-year-old was taken into custody following a fatal carjacking in Baltimore early Friday morning.

According to Baltimore Cty Police, a Southeast District police officer was on routine patrol in the 100 block of North Conkling Street around 5:06 a.m. when he saw a man was being assaulted by three juvenile boys as they attempted to take his vehicle.

The three suspects took the man's vehicle and then struck the man as they fled the area.

Officers followed the suspects in the stolen car and they bailed out of the vehicle in the 100 block of North Clinton Street.

The driver, a 16-year-old boy, was taken into custody. Two other suspects remain at large.

The 41-year-old man was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he later died.

Baltimore City Councilman Zeke Cohen visited the neighborhood and spoke with neighbors about the violence plaguing the area.

He told WJZ a trauma response team was on scene to console the victim's family.

"It is unacceptable," Cohen said. "It is heartbreaking to see people losing their lives."

Michael Sansone lives nearby and said he got an alert on his phone about the carjacking. He quickly went outside and saw the chaos at his front door.

"When I come out I see tape down here, I see tape over here all the way down to the bottom of the block and I'm just wondering what's going on," he said.

Sansone said he hopes police catch the two other suspects.

If they want to act like men, charge them like men," Sansone said. "Treat them like a man."

Charges are pending in this case.
