Police Searching For More Suspects After Man Killed Riding His Bike

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore City police continue their search for those responsible for the murder of a 29-year-old, killed while he was riding his bike.

Police have arrested two teens, but they say there are more suspects.

Marcus Washington with the latest on the investigation and reaction from friends of the victim, Robert Ponsi.

Ponsi was a sever at a Harbor East restaurant. Many of the people he worked with say they are still in shock. They were planning to help Robert celebrate his 30th birthday, which would have been Tuesday.

"He was just Rob -- the most simple person you can meet. There wasn't anything fake about him," said Samatha Cowan, co-worker. "He's just Rob. We all just say his name and you just laugh because you knew exactly who he was."

For Samatha Cowan and other workers at James Joyce Pub in Harbor East, this work day is not easy without one of their own -- Robert Ponsi.

"There never was a dull moment with him and all you could do was laugh or smile," said Samatha Cowan, co-worker. "We have to come to work and smile and everything reminds you of Rob."

While on his bike in the Waverly area of Baltimore, police say 29-year-old Robert Ponsi was approached by a group.

"The victim stopped his bicycle, there was some sort of verbal confrnotation, and that's when this group assaulted, stabbed and then robbed the victim," said Jeremy Silbert, Baltimore City Police Department.

"When everybody found out, it was phone calls after text messages and we're here as a family and it's just like losing a family member," said Cowan.

Ponsi died at the hospital from his injuries.

Police have arrested two teens in connection with his death.

Both 17-year-old Antwan Eldridge and 16-year-old Daquan Middleton have been charged as adults with murder, robbery and assault.

But police say the two did not act alone, and they are actively looking for others.

"Even if you don't have these suspects' names, you might know where they live, you might know where they go to school, where they work -- any information at all, investigators need," said Silbert.

"I just think people want closure at this point," said Cowan.

Anyone with information on other suspects in this case, you're asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP.
