14-Year-Old Shot In NE Baltimore; Police Investigating
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police are investigating who pulled the trigger after a 14-year-old was shot in northeast Baltimore Tuesday night.
Detectives said the teenage boy showed up to an area hospital with gunshot wounds to his upper torso. As police responded to the scene, they were told the shooting happened near the intersection of Carlisle Road and Harford Road around 8:30 p.m.
Neighbors who were home when the shooting happened told WJZ they thought the sound they heard was fireworks.
"The fireworks sound so much like firearms, but unfortunately then we heard screaming," one neighbor said.
The man who spoke to WJZ did not want to be identified but said he has lived in this community for 30 years and things have gotten more violent over time. He blames many of the shootings on drug activity.
"It's out of the sight of the norm so this is where they prey at," he said. "These back alley streets, vacant lots, places like that for their drug activity."
Residents said they have seen police making rounds in the area but officers were not on the block when the shooting happened.
"The police presence has been increasing but they can't be everywhere all the time," a neighbor said.
The longtime resident offered a word of advice to young people: "join the military or if they got relatives outside this community maybe go spend time with them it's a change of atmosphere is very important."
Northeast District detectives are investigating this shooting and are asking anyone with information to call (410) 396-2444 or call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7lockup.
