Winning $1 Million Mega Millions Ticket Sold In Howard County

WEST FRIENDSHIP, Md. (WJZ) -- You might want to check your lottery tickets, especially if you played Mega Millions at a Howard County convenience store.

Ron Matz reports after Tuesday night's drawing, someone is walking around with a ticket worth $1 million.

It's Mega Millions mania at the High's store at 12780 Frederick Rd. in West Friendship.

Someone is holding a winning second-tier ticket worth $1 million.

"Wow, it's crazy," said Kris Metzer, of Pikesville. "You never know. I don't gamble very much, but too bad it isn't me."

The winner picked the first five numbers, but not the bonus ball. Customers are wondering--who's got the ticket to paradise?

"They're probably waiting to see if it's them or they haven't even figured out that they actually were the lucky ones," said Teresa Williams, of Woodbine.

And luck is right. The odds of winning this $1 million dollar prize -- well, the lottery says it's more than 18 million to 1.

"If I had a $1 million dollar ticket, I would pay some bills, pay the house off," said Metzer. "And probably invest it for retirement."

This is the first second-tier winning Mega Millions ticket sold in the state this year. The winner has six months to claim their $1 million prize.

The winning numbers were: 02 19 44 51 57.

The Maryland Lottery encourages the winner to sign the back of the ticket immediately and put it in a safe location.
