1 Injured After Small Plane Crashes In Md.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- The pilot of a small airplane has been seriously injured after crashing while taking off at a Montgomery County airport.

Montgomery County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says it happened Saturday around noon at the Montgomery County Airpark in Gaithersburg. Piringer says the plane was at an altitude of about 75 to 100 feet when it crashed. The FAA says the pilot reported a mechanical problem and tried to return after takeoff.

The pilot, a 49-year-old man, was the only person onboard the plane.
