Chicago artist Kelly Pratt loves sandwiches. In fact, she loves them so much she is planning to create a poster featuring a sandwich for each state. While this is a work in progress, check out the first 13 states she has covered in this slideshow collection of her unique and delicious-looking work.
Pratt writes about the Powerhouse: "I could eat the California Powerhouse every day. Avocado. Sprouts. Tomatoes. Cucumbers. Cheese. Chive mayo spread. Toasted multigrain bread. West Coast goodness."
Connecticut: Chicken Parmigiana
Pratt on the Chicken Parmigiana: "I spent more than half my life in Connecticut and have indulged in my fair share of chicken parms. Hot sandwiches with perfectly toasted bread have a special place in my stomach."
Illinois: Italian Beef
Pratt on the Italian Beef: "I kicked off my Stately Sandwich project with Illinois because, as my newest state of residence, it has been a constant source of inspiration."
Kentucky: Hot Brown
Pratt on the Hot Brown: "I invited my friend and classmate, Courtney, over to be my official authenticity tester for the hot brown. Courtney's whole family attended Western Kentucky University and while I've never been to Kentucky I think I found a good recipe."
Louisiana: Muffaletta
Pratt on the Muffaletta: "In honor of Mardi Gras I made the Louisiana Muffaletta! I'd never heard of this sandwich before and frankly I'm not sure which is the correct way to spell it... but let's be serious, how can you go wrong with a whole bunch of meat and cheese?"
Massachusetts: Fluffernutter
Pratt on the Fluffernutter: "Growing up one of my favorite sandwiches was a fluffernutter. It may be possible that my dad enjoyed it more than I did because he got to sing the fluffernutter song. Either way, they were a childhood staple."
Minnesota: Fried Walleye
Pratt on the Fried Walleye: "I may have grown up on the east coast but I was brought up with mid-western values. My mom was born and raised in Minnesota so it was only fitting to make the fried walleye sandwich on Mother's Day
New York: Reuben
Pratt on the Reuben: "Growing up in and around New York, I have had my fair share of reuben sandwiches. But, if there were to be someone who has taste-tested more reubens, it would have to be my sister, Colleen."
North Carolina: Pulled Pork
Pratt on the Pulled Pork: "Every once in a while you meet a person who will be a best friend for life. I'm lucky to be rich in friends and one of those wonderful people, Brady, visited over the weekend. A true fan of Stately Sandwiches, Brady was eager to be a part of the project so we made the North Carolina pulled pork sandwich to celebrate her home-state."
Pennsylvania: Cheesesteak
Pratt on the Cheesesteak: "Everyone knows about the Pennsylvania [Philly] Cheesesteak, but my friends Melissa and Mick really know The Cheesesteak. Mel's parent's house is dangerously close to the famous sandwich joints and on a recent trip home, Mel and Mick went in search for the #1 cheesesteak."
Texas: Brisket
Pratt on the Brisket: "When a sandwich starts with bloody marys and ends with tequila, it's pretty impossible not to love."
Virginia: Ham Biscuit
Pratt on the Ham Biscuit: "Virginia is probably one of the hardest states to write about because it means so much to me now. It's a state that I never thought of growing up but was suddenly put on the map when my sister, Colleen, decided to attend The University of Richmond."
