Mother photographs daughter with animals for 12 years

Robin Schwartz photographed her daughter Amelia for 12 years with various members of the animal kingdom. The project resulted in the book "Amelia's World" and the upcoming "Amelia and the Animals," both by Aperture.

Schwartz says she started the project after her own mother passed away, as a way to cope with her grief.

"What my mother and Amelia have in common was that they are girly girls, very into fashion, being photographed and having girlfriends," said Schwartz, who had more in common with her father.

"What my mother, Amelia and I did have in common was a love of primates. One of Amelia's toy monkeys in the photographs was mine, a Jake Fred Mugs monkey doll bought in a toy store long ago on Ludlow Street, where my mom grew up."
