Remembering the victims of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17
Quinn Lucas Schansman was identified by Barack Obama as the one American on Flight 17.
Schansman also has Dutch citizenship, and was on his way to meet his family on vacation in Malaysia.
Joep Lange
Joep Lange, a world-renowned AIDS researcher, was headed to the 2014 World AIDS Conference on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, according to The Washington Post.
UNSW Australia Kirby Institute Director, Professor David A Cooper, a good friend of Lange, said “Joep had an absolute commitment to HIV treatment and care in Asia and Africa... The joy in collaborating with Joep was that he would always bring a fresh view, a unique take on things, and he never accepted that something was impossible to achieve. Our joint work in Bangkok, the HIVNAT centre, will stand as his legacy.”
Karlijn Keijzer
Karlijn Keijzer, a former rower and current doctoral student at Indiana University, was from Amsterdam.
Indiana University head rowing coach, Steve Peterson, said "She was a phenomenal student and loved IU so much that she stayed here after she earned her master’s degree. Our condolences go out to her family and friends in this very tough time.”
Glenn Thomas

Thomas was believed to be travelling to the 2014 International AIDS Conference in Melbourne.
Dr. Rachel Baggaley, member of the HIV Department at the WHO and friend of Thomas told Vox News: "I'm just devastated. He's a very close colleague whom I work with on a daily basis. He just had his birthday, he was going to plan all sorts of celebrations."
