Couscous, a 4-year-old lion, fatally attacked Hanson when she entered his enclosure alone. The lion was later shot as rescuers tried to save Hanson.

The Seattle-area intern had loved lions and tigers since childhood, "was absolutely fearless" around them and hoped to work at a zoo after her six-month internship, her father told The Associated Press.

"She was at ease with those big cats," Paul Hanson, an attorney, said of his daughter. "They liked her."

This Oct. 12, 2012 photo released by JP Marketing shows a 4-year-old male African lion named Couscous at Cat Haven, a private wild animal park in Dunlap, Calif. The lion had been raised at Cat Haven since it was a cub. He was shot and killed by police after he had attacked a 24-year-old volunteer.
