De Blasio, Dolan Break Ground On Low-Income Housing For Seniors
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio and Cardinal Timothy Dolan joined forces Thursday to break ground at a new community housing development in the Bronx.
The Artsbridge Building in the borough's Highbridge section will boast 61 apartments for low-income people aged 62 and older, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.
The new building will also have a 25,000-square-foot community facility.
De Blasio And Dolan Break Ground At New Low-Income Housing Project
"This is a great day for Highbridge, and it's possible because of the extraordinary partnership we've forged between the city and the archdiocese," de Blasio said, adding that they're "committed to confronting inequality and ensuring all New Yorkers can live in dignity in their neighborhoods."
"The archdiocese has been a leader in working with the city, state and federal government to provide affordable housing to people of all faiths," Dolan said. "Housing is a basic human right, and the need for quality affordable housing may never have been greater than it is right now, particularly for seniors and those with special needs."
The development is expected to be completed in 2016.
