Who told Kirsten Gillibrand he liked his "girls chubby"?

The New York Times revealed the identity of the male senator who told Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York: "Don't lose too much weight now. I like my girls chubby."

In her new book, "Off the Sidelines," Gillibrand described her struggle to lose weight after the birth of her second son, Henry, in 2008, and the unwelcome attention it attracted from her colleagues.

One male House member approached her at the gym and said, "Good thing you're working out, because you wouldn't want to get porky."

The "chubby" comment, it turns out, came courtesy of former Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, who died in late 2012.

As the Times writes, Inouye was well known for his work on civil rights and solidly supportive of women's rights as well. But they also note he was accused of forcing his hairdresser to have sex with him in 1992, prompting another Hawaii state senator to say she had heard from nine other women who had been sexually harassed by Inouye. None came forward.

Gillibrand's office did not confirm or deny that Inouye made the remark.
