Two juveniles, ages 12 and 13, arrested in connection to fatal shooting of 13-year-old, police say
BATON ROUGE, La. -- A 13-year-old and a 12-year-old were arrested Saturday in connection to the fatal shooting of a 13-year-old on Friday, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies say a 13-year-old was charged with negligent homicide and a 12-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm. They were both booked into juvenile detention, CBS affiliate WAFB reports.
Officials with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office say that Zion Barthelemy, 13, was shot at around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The shooting appeared to be accidental, The Advocate reports. Zion's mother told The Advocate that the two people arrested were her two of her son's best friends.
Barthelemy was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died from the injury he sustained.
