Two arrested in Christmas Eve killing of Detroit father, musician
DETROIT - One person has been charged and another arrested in connection with the Christmas Eve murder of a Detroit father and musician, CBS Detroit reports.
According to the station, 35-year-old Charles Cox was arraigned Thursday on murder, carjacking, armed robbery and firearms charges in the shooting death of Anthony Tolson on Dec. 24.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said tips from the public led to Cox's arrest.
Another suspect in the slaying, 18-year-old Darnell Gene-Arthur Young, was taken into custody Thursday night.
According to police, Tolson had just finished performing in a church service and had stopped at a market when he was ordered out of his vehicle, shot and killed.
The suspects allegedly took his SUV, which was packed with presents for Tolson's three children, along with his bass guitar and other equipment.
No motive for the shooting has been revealed and it was unclear whether Tolson is believed to have known his killers.
Cox was remanded to jail pending a hearing set for Friday, Jan. 22. Young is being held at the Detroit Detention Center.
