Trump at 100 days, North Korea briefing, and United Airlines attendants
100-day mark
President Donald Trump reaches his 100th day in office this weekend, and he likely will go down as one of the least effective presidents in U.S. history at this stage of his first term. With Obamacare still in place and courts thwarting other cornerstone goals set out by Mr. Trump on the campaign trail, he has no significant legislative victories to claim thus far.
Rating Trump
While most Americans say 100 days isn’t enough time to judge the Trump administration, 41 percent asked for a CBS News poll said they approved of the way Mr. Trump is handling his job as he nears that milestone. It’s a historically low rating, but it’s been fairly steady since he took office, underpinned by support that comes heavily from Republicans.
White House briefing
Every U.S. senator is invited to visit the White House today for a special briefing on the North Korean threat. The nation’s top military and diplomatic officials will update the senators this afternoon, and President Trump plans to drop by. The White House is an unusual venue for a briefing on such sensitive subject matter.
North Korea fears
Most Americans think North Korea is a threat that can be contained without military action for now and a majority remains uneasy about President Trump’s ability to handle the standoff with the nuclear-armed nation, our CBS News poll shows. A majority of Democrats, Republicans, and independents say North Korea’s development of weapons is a threat that can be contained.
Faith in Congress
Washington is abuzz with talk that the federal government could shut down this weekend if lawmakers fail to sign an eleventh-hour funding bill, but another group of wheeler-dealers is unfazed: Wall Street. As stocks power into record terrain, we look at why investors are convinced a shutdown will be averted.
Flight attendants
The president of the union representing American Airlines flight attendants is speaking out on “CBS This Morning” about the video showing one of the airline’s attendants nearly hitting a woman with a stroller. That and other confrontations have put a spotlight on conditions both passengers and attendants face.
Marine tech
On the sand, in the air and in the water, the U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton are training for the next generation of warfare. “CBS This Morning” gets a first look at the high-tech tools meant to give U.S. troops the upper hand on the battlefields of tomorrow.
