Tidal celebrates Prince's birthday by releasing 15 rare albums
It's a day of celebration on what would have been Prince's 58th birthday.
And to help keep spirits up, Tidal did Prince fans proud by releasing 15 rare albums by the music icon, making them available to subscribers of the streaming service.
The massive collection of b-sides, unreleased tracks and live albums that became available Tuesday on Tidal includes "New Power Soul," "The Rainbow Children" and "The Black Album," among others.
Prince died on April 21 from an apparent opioid overdose at the age of 57. In the week following his death, sales of his works skyrocketed, moving more than 4 million units in the U.S., according to Nielsen. His final studio albums, "HITNRUN Phase One and HITNRUN Phase Two," were released exclusively on Tidal.
"After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at TIDAL recognize and applaud the effort that real musicians put in2 their craft 2 achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry," Prince said in an August 2015 statement.
