"The Ricki Lake Show" axed after one season
Looks like Ricki Lake wasn't able to recapture the talk show success she found the first time around.
Distributor Twentieth Television has declined to renew her freshman syndicated series, "The Ricki Lake Show," for a second season. Lake's talk show debuted last September, and it has struggled with low ratings ever since.
The series certainly wasn't helped by a large crop of talk show competitors from the likes of Katie Couric and Steve Harvey, who have been hoping to fill the daytime void left since "The Oprah Winfrey Show" ended in 2011.
The 44-year-old Lake struck TV gold in the '90s with her first talk show, "Ricki Lake," which aired for 12 seasons from 1992 until 2004.
Lake's latest series isn't the only talk show to get the axe recently. "Anderson Live" and "The Jeremy Kyle Show" were also canceled this season.
According to "Broadcasting and Cable," production on "The Ricki Lake Show" will continue until Mar. 28, with new episodes and repeats airing until September.
