"The Hobbit," "Django Unchained" named most pirated films of 2013
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was the most pirated film of the year, according to a list compiled by TorrentFreak.
The website estimates that the film -- which was released in December 2012 and earned more than $1 billion at the global box office -- was illegally downloaded 8.4 million times.
Other films with the dubious honor of making the list include "Django Unchained" (8.1 million), "Fast & Furious 6" (7.9 million) and "Iron Man 3" (7.6 million).
TorrentFreak says it compiled the data for its year-end list through several sources, including download statistics recorded by public BitTorrent trackers, but does not include online streaming or cyberlocker downloads.
