Conn. teens charged after friend drives drunk, dies
Two Connecticut teens were charged last Thursday with reckless endangerment for failing to stop their friend from drunk driving. The 17-year-old girl had a blood alcohol content of .27 when she crashed her car into a tree and died on July 14, 2013, according to the Hartford Courant.
Police say Jane Modlesky, a senior at Glastonbury High School, was drinking at a party before the crash, reports CBS affiliate WFSB.
The station reports that Modlesky was inside the Honda Pilot with four male teens prior to the accident in the summer. One by one, the male teens reportedly drove themselves home and then left Modlesky to get home by herself in the car. Police say they were "well aware...she was highly intoxicated."
Modlesky crashed half a mile away from the location where the last of the group of friends had gotten out of the car.
WFSB reports that the last two 16-year-olds to exit the car have been charged with second-degree reckless endangerment while another teen was cited for violation of passenger restrictions and operating a motor vehicle.
The suspects' names are not being released because of the age.
Glastonbury teen Tara Evans told the station, "That's not OK...If you have a friend that's drunk and you are sober, you got to stop them from driving because more than likely they're going to get hurt."
