Ted Haggard Says He's Bisexual
NEW YORK (CBS) Ted Haggard, the disgraced-then-redeemed evangelist from Colorado Springs, Colo., has admitted he's a bisexual.
The revelation came in a profile of Haggard in GQ magazine's February 2011 issue.
"I think that probably, if I were 21 in this society, I would identify myself as a bisexual," the pastor told the magazine.
In the article, the pastor admits that he was sexually molested at age 7, used to watch gay porn and was a compulsive masturbator.
But he's 54, Haggard adds, so he's content to "exclusively have sex with my wife and be perfectly satisfied."
Haggard's fall from grace happened in June 2006, when he was linked to a sexual encounter with a male prostitute from whom he had also bought crystal meth.
"We never had sex sex," he said of the affair. "I bought drugs and a massage from him, and he masturbated me at the end of it. That's it."
Haggard was shunned from the New Life Church, which he founded 25 years ago, following the scandal.
"I used to think the church was the light of the world," Ted told GQ. "But I've completely lost my faith in it."
Haggard has since founded St. James Church, in Colorado Springs.
He was also featured in a one-hour special that aired on TLC on Jan. 16, titled "Ted Haggard: Scandalous," which focused on the opening of the new church last June.
