Shooting at Houston McDonald's leaves owner dead
HOUSTON -- Police are searching for whoever is responsible for the fatal shooting of a Houston McDonald's owner outside the restaurant Monday morning.
Authorities say 68-year-old Carroll Oliver was gunned down as he was heading to a bank in what some may have known was his morning routine. Investigators told CBS affiliate KHOU that they believed the robbery may have been the result of an inside job by a former or current employee of the franchise restaurant.
Houston police responded to the McDonald's on Houston's east side after they received a 911 call reporting a drive-by shooting at the golden arches around 9:45 a.m., according to the affiliate.
The owner reportedly picked up cash at the business and was walking back to his SUV in the parking lot when someone robbed him and then opened fire, according to the station. The store owner was carrying a pistol and tried to fire off a few shots before he died at the scene.
Police didn't know if the attacker or attackers fled with any cash or how many people were involved.
They say they are looking for a white Jeep Grand Cherokee with custom rims. The vehicle was last seen heading westbound on I-10.
Anyone with information is asked to call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
