"Sharknado" to get a third installment
The second "Sharknado" film doesn't premiere until this summer, but that hasn't stopped Syfy from plotting a third installment of the cult, social media-driven franchise.
What we know is that more sharks and tornadoes are expected to follow in the third movie, but a cast and location have yet to be announced.
The first film found sharks and storms wreaking havoc on Los Angeles, and the second one, titled "Sharknado 2: The Second One," is set in New York City. It debuts July 30 -- a year after the first movie premiered.
Actress Vivica A. Fox, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath, E! host Kelly Osbourne, actor Andy Dick and former "30 Rock" star Judah Friedlander will join original cast members Ian Ziering and Tara Reid.
Syfy's original movie, which debuted last summer, was a big hit on social media -- much to Ziering's surprise.
"I was bracing for the worst, but of course was always hoping for the best," Ziering told CBS News. "We took it seriously. We committed to the material and it was enough that people were able to suspend disbelief and enjoy the fantasy and escape reality to the point where, 'Wow, there's sharks and tornadoes and look how this guy is shooting sharks out of the sky.'"
