"Searching for Sugar Man" wins Oscar
He was more popular than Elvis, but humble 70s singer-songwriter Rodriguez didn't know about his fame in South Africa for 40 years.
In the 60 Minutes report above, Bob Simon meets Rodriguez and Malik Bendjelloul, the Swedish filmmaker who chronicled the Detroit musician's story in "Searching for Sugar Man."
Bendjelloul's film won the Oscar for best documentary feature at the 85th annual Academy Awards last night.
The enigmatic Rodriguez did not attend the ceremony. And, in an interview backstage, producer Simon Chinn explained why.
"He genuinely doesn't want to take the credit for this film....He's genuinely a humble man," Chinn said.
Simon's report originally aired in October 2012.
