Venus Romero Iraheta is accused in the stabbing death of Damaris Alexandria Reyes Rivas, apparently linked to the notoriously violent gang MS-13CBS affiliate WUSA reports that police believe Damaris, who was from Gaithersburg, Md., was likely killed in January but her body was found in Virginia a month later.

WUSA reports that Iraheta is one of 10 suspects charged in the murder of Damaris. Police originally listed her as charged with abduction and gang participation. Investigators have called Iraheta an associate of the gang.

Both Iraheta and Damaris were originally from El Salvador, where the MS-13 gang is headquartered.

According to the Post, Iraheta and Damaris had both been romantically involved with 21-year-old Christian Sosa Rivas, who law enforcement says was killed by MS-13 gang members around New Years 2017. The newspaper reports that a search warrant states Iraheta thought Damaris may have lured Sosa Rivas to the location where he was killed. His body was found on the banks of the Potomac River.

A search warrant says Sosa Rivas was targeted by MS-13 leaders because he was claiming to be a leader of the gang, the Post reports.

The Post reports that Damaris had run away from home in December 2016 and become involved with the gang. According to testimony during Wednesday's court hearing Iraheta stabbed Damaris 13 times after she was allegedly lured to a park in the snow by an 18-year-old named Jose Castillo Rivas, who is also charged in the case.
