Police: North Carolina man takes own life, a day after fatally shooting 3 co-workers
(CBS/AP) STAR, N.C. - Authorities say a man who shot and killed three co-workers at a North Carolina lumber company last week has died of a subsequent self-inflicted wound.
Montgomery County Sheriff Dempsey Owens said in a news release that Ronald Dean Davis, 50, of Star, N.C., died Saturday morning at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill from a single gunshot wound to the head.
According to CBS affiliate WRAL, Daniel Thomas Davis, 32, of Star, Jose Galdino Lopez Izquierdo, 25, of Asheboro, and a third person were killed when Davis opened fire in a warehouse at McBride Lumber Co. A fourth victim, 21-year-old Florentino Tellez Aparicio, was critically wounded.
Authorities said Sunday that Daniel Davis and Ronald Davis were cousins, WRAL reports.
Police say Ronald Davis went home after the rampage at the warehouse and shot himself. Owens said Davis was described as disgruntled, but the sheriff did not say exactly why he was upset. He said Davis targeted his victims at the company, where 16 people were working when the shooting occurred early Friday.
