Police: Georgia teen stabbed to death by her cousin
ACWORTH, Ga. -- Police say an 18-year-old Georgia woman murdered her teenage cousin on the victim's front lawn, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.
Students at Allatoona High School in Acworth will wear black Monday, in remembrance of Abbey Hebert, 17, who was allegedly murdered on Saturday morning.
Hebert's cousin, Olivia Smith, was arrested soon after officers found the victim lying in front of her home. Smith was charged with felony murder. A motive for the stabbing has yet to be determined.
Friends said Hebert was a senior at Allatoona High School and played softball for 11 years. They said she was loved by everyone.
"There are a lot of ugly people in this world that may deserve something like that, but not her," said Ray Mitchell, Hebert's former softball coach.
"Blue eyes basically told her whole life story ... she was very loved," said Savanna, Hebert's best friend since first grade.
Faizon Harris has known Abbey since elementary school and says there wasn't a nicer, more encouraging person on the campus of Allatoona High School.
Friends told WGCL that Smith and Hebert were close friends and cousins by marriage. Few could explain how that friendship might take such a drastic turn.
On Twitter, WGCL found an exchange between Hebert and Smith that took place just last week.
Olivia tweeted, "Love you sweet girl." Abbey tweeted back, "Love you more than life."
As authorities work on a motive, friends of the victim held a vigil Sunday, releasing balloons and paper lanterns in her memory.
Smith is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Meanwhile, grief counselors will be at the school Monday.
