Pardoned Miss. murderer Joseph Ozment found in Wyoming, ordered to appear in court
(CBS/AP) JACKSON, Miss. - Investigators in Wyoming have found Joseph Ozment, a convicted murderer recently pardoned by former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, according to the state's Attorney General.
Ozment, who according to CNN shot a man in the head during a robbery in 1992, is one of four men whose pardons are being appealed by AG Jim Hood. Hood says the men failed to publish notice of their requested pardons in a local newspaper as required by the state constitution.
According to CNN, a Mississippi judge issued subpoenas for all four men, but authorities had been unable to locate Ozment, who was picked up by his mother on Jan. 8 after being pardoned.
At a news conference Monday, Hood said Ozment was in Wyoming with his girlfriend and that investigators found him through tips. Ozment was not arrested, but served with a court order that requires he check in with the Mississippi Department of Corrections every 24 hours and appear in court on Friday.
Ozment was among more than 200 convicted criminals pardoned by Gov. Haley Barbour before he left office.
