Ohio woman convicted in murder of Chicago teacher
CHICAGO -- An Ohio woman has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of a Catholic high school teacher in his suburban Chicago home.
Cook County jurors deliberated for about five hours on Thursday before finding 22-year-old Alisha Walker of Akron guilty in the death of 61-year-old Brother Rice High School teacher Al Filan.
Walker claimed she acted in self-defense after Filan became angry and grabbed a knife when she and another prostitute refused to have unprotected sex with him in January 2014.
Prosecutors argued that Walker fabricated the story in an effort to avoid responsibility in Filan's death.
Walker is scheduled for sentencing Feb. 11. She faces up to 20 years in prison
